DESCRIPTION

The entrance to Tambo de Báez is well marked on the gravel road (Provincial Route 79), between Colonia Suiza and the Casa de Piedra river. The parking place is 300 mts. in from the road with a gate on the way which you have to open and close behind you.

The first 400 mts. are shared with the trail going to Cerro Bella Vista. From here take the detour left and soon it descends and borders the Casa de Piedra creek for roughly 6 km. where there is a bridge and continue on the other side to the end of the valley. The trail becomes pretty steep with switchbacks for half an hour till you arrive at a bridge. The trail continues climbing up for almost another hour before getting to the San Martin Hut.

Take the same trail back down or continue on to Manfredo Segre Hut (Laguna Negra) this traverse is recommended to do with a Mountain Guide, or continue along South on the “Huella Andina” traverse to “Los Césares” on the Mascardi lake.

To improve the trekking experience, it is recommended to contact a Mountain Guide authorized by the AAGM (Argentine Association of Mountain Guides)
